Building a new future for sexual assault survivors

We believe survivors deserve new and innovative options for care that meet them where they are and with what they want.

Tools and technology to empower survivors

Medical Care

We can connect survivors 24/7 to a SANE who can answer questions, help guide them to the next steps, and access risk.

Annonumized Reporting

In our new portal, survivors can save lock, and timestamp their story and they have full control over what to do with it. They can share it or do nothing it’s up to them.

Mental Health Support

We work with trauma healers to bring survivors many forms of mental health support to help them along their journey.

A Community

We’ve created a community of survivors who are here to help support, guide, and be a listing ear to whoever needs it.

Sexual assault is a complex issue that requires complex solutions.

For too long, we’ve failed survivors with few options for care, healing, and justice in whatever form that looks like for them. We box them in, we label them, and we let their kits sit on shelves. Our mission is to change that reality by bringing new tools for survivor healing, medical care, and justice. Project JDoe seeks to create a new vision for survivors’ care, starting with a one-stop portal coming in late 2023.

Today, Survivors Lack Options For Care

We take a new survivors-centered approach to healing and care.

  • At the forefront of survivors’ care is both there short and long-term medical needs. To start, we believe in separating medical care from any involvement with a rape kit, the police, and the legal system. Survivors at any time deserve the right to judgment-free and police-free medical care. We also believe in looking at the whole medical needs from the first 120 hours to one month to 5 years later. Meeting survivors where they are at will be crucial to closing the gap in care. With over 79% never receiving care today, we have a long way to go. Project Jdoe is partnering with innovative companies to find ways to bridge this gap and provide the support needed.

  • Sexual assault can cause mental health impacts, including risk for PTSD, depression, and suicide. anxiety and more. Today most survivors never get mental health support; our gaol is to change that realty. Providing judgment-free spaces for mental health support and removing barriers to care is crucial.

  • Forensics are a key part of pursuing a legal case. Today many survivors never get a rape kit or forensic evidence collected. If a survivor gets a kit it may never be tested. This reality of forensics is one we know can be changed. Working with SANEs, labs, and leaders in this space we hope to not only increase access but also increase the speed they are tested and the outcomes.

  • Today, we define justice for a survivor and often, that is linked to the criminal system. Our goal is to redefine justice and let the survivors choose what that means to them. Giving them the power to decide the next steps and what they want to do is crucial post-assault. This will also enable us to use alternative forms of justice, such as restorative and transformative justice and community-based justice and healing. Getting to the rote cause of trauma and sexual assault will help us prevent it going forward and bring everyone justice.

  • We believe reporting options need to be expanded. It should be easy for a survivor to report their assault with no questions or judgment asked. They should also be allowed to define their involvement in reporting and next steps. Giving them the power will help to increase reporting and justice. We know the majority of people who cause harm will repeat; by enabling a more open and robust reporting system, we can help link cases and bring justice to more survivors.

We understand survivors’ needs are different, and how they seek care is different. Our goal is to re-invent how we think about survivor care on five pillars, as outlined here. Each pillar requires us to reevaluate and innovate new solutions to best support survivors. Project JDoe seeks to build a one-stop portal that starts to tackle the issues faced in each pillar.
